Background
I was inspired by the lesson on using layers to create composite images, so I decided to try my hand at creating something magical and other-worldly. I didn't necessarily have anything specific in mind at first, but the idea of a dancer in the winter woods seemed appealing, so I searched Pixabay for images of snowy forests and ballerinas. Then I came across an image of the Milky Way and decided to combine the images.
Photoshop Skills
- Removed background from the image of the ballerina.
- Layered the woods, Milky Way, and ballerina images together.
- Adjusted the opacity of the background layers to combine them.
- Added adjustment layers to the background images and to the ballerina alone.
- Drew a grid (rule of thirds) to inform the placement of design elements.
- Applied effects to the text and ballerina layers.
Design Skills
- Used the rule of thirds to arrange the elements on my image.
- Used contrasting fonts (serif and handwriting).
- Repeated colors from the Milky Way image in my texts boxes to make the color scheme cohesive.
- Emphasized colors such as soft pinks, blues, and purples to evoke a sense of calm and wonder.
- Aligned my text in the center of the two text boxes, which were themselves aligned on the left third of the image. I chose a center alignment because the word incomprehensively is much longer than any of the other text, and it stuck out oddly when aligned left or right.
- Applied proximity by keeping the boxes of the quotation and the author together so that a reader would read the quotation then the author's name.

Revision
After reviewing feedback from my peers and instructor, I decided to adjust the opacity of the shapes behind the text. This allows the text to stand out more clearly while not eliminating the ethereal mood of the overall design.
