Revised Exhibit
Original Exhibit
Background
For my portfolio exhibit this week, I decided to create a poster for my 8th grade daughter's National Academic League (NAL) team. Her team's season just began, and she and her teammates are very excited about being able to participate in this activity. I worked to reflect the age of the kids on the team and to emphasize the school colors of purple and gold.
Photoshop Skills
- Created rectangle shapes to mimic a polaroid. Added a slight drop shadow and a beveled/embossed edge to create a sense of depth/dimension.
- Added three separate images cropped to a square to complete the polaroid look.
- Used a color palette for the background colors, mirroring the school's colors.
- Filled in the background and used the rectangle tool to draw other shapes within the palette.
- Applied hue/saturation adjustment layers/masks in order to change the color of the clothes in each picture, and the folder in the center picture.
- Applied curves and levels adjustment layers to the photographs.
- Rotated each image to look like a scattering of polaroids.
Design Skills
- Used a decorative font to evoke school varsity letters.
- Used a sans serif font and a script font for contrast.
- Applied principles of proximity to group like text information together.
- Used a color scheme that reflects the school's colors.
- Chose a center alignment to draw the eye down the column of text.
- Designed faux-polaroids to evoke a "school-days" feel.

Revision
To update this exhibit, I decided to reduce the number of fonts from 3 to 2 in order to simplify the overall design. I also shifted the alignment from center to left. Overall, I like the way these revisions impact the overall design of this poster.
